Turning 65?
Let's Make Medicare Simple.
Turning 65 is an important milestone, but understanding Medicare doesn't have to be complicated. With over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, I help individuals in Florida and Tennessee understand their Medicare options, answer their questions, and make informed coverage decisions with confidence. Whether you prefer a telephone conversation, a virtual consultation, or an in-person appointment by arrangement, I'm here to provide the personal attention you deserve.
When Should I Enroll in Medicare?
For most people, Medicare eligibility begins at age 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period generally lasts seven months: the three months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month, and the three months afterward.
However, enrolling at 65 isn't always necessary. If you're still working and have qualifying employer health coverage, you may be able to delay certain parts of Medicare without a late-enrollment penalty. The rules depend on your individual circumstances, including the type of coverage you have.
Understanding when to enroll can help you avoid unnecessary penalties and gaps in coverage. I'm happy to help you review your situation and understand your options before making a decision.
Understanding Your Medicare Coverage Options
Original Medicare (Parts A and B)
Original Medicare is provided by the federal government. Part A generally covers inpatient hospital care, while Part B covers medically necessary doctor services, outpatient care, and certain preventive services. Original Medicare does not cover all healthcare expenses.
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. They provide your Part A and Part B benefits and often include prescription drug coverage and additional benefits. Provider networks, costs, and coverage rules vary by plan.
Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)
Medicare Supplement policies work alongside Original Medicare to help pay certain out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles and coinsurance. These policies are sold by private insurance companies and generally do not include prescription drug coverage.
Medicare Part D — Prescription Drug Coverage
Part D helps cover prescription medications. Coverage is available through standalone prescription drug plans or through many Medicare Advantage plans. Formularies, pharmacy networks, and costs can differ.
